Some old woman in me has been unlacing my shoes and rubbing sagebrush leaves between my hands for about a decade now. She's been gently showing me the way of things, the way of a life lived in one place. She recommends the books I borrow from the library, the people I spend most of my time around, the way to greet folks on the path, the way to sing when I've got nothing but fears zipping my lips together. She's the one who really knows what's going on here. This old woman comes from the time of not-a-moment-wasted, not an egg-shell unscattered on the garden, nothing short of love in the heart despite all external pressures to despair. She is who I hear when my eyes ache of computer screen, when I lose touch of feeling, when I forget the enormity of beauty. She tells of nature, the nature of us to love and be wells for one another. She's the one guiding me to offer community workshops on how to seasonally forage, cook, weave and make medicinal remedies with local plants as well as how to care for our well (deep waters in the Earth) through Foot Reflexology.
To the Old Woman, I am of grateful service.
